Biography
Born, raised, and currently residing in London, I am a third-year Ph.D. student at the School of Oriental and African Studies. My current research examines the financial, commercial, and cultural aspects of British diplomacy in the Ottoman Empire in the “long” eighteenth century. My particular historical interests include diplomatic history, commercial history, the Ottoman Empire, Safavid and Qajar Iran, modern Turkey, and the modern Middle East. I have travelled and researched widely in Turkey and the former Ottoman realms. My particular focus in this column will be in examining Britain’s interaction with the world from a non-British perspective.
